SUPPORTING ILGA-LAC IN 2021

In 2021, the Rainbow Fund will step in and support ILGA-LAC (International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association for Latin America and the Caribbean).

The Finnish government has been successfully supporting ILGA for many years, but is not able to contribute in 2021. The Rainbow Fund believes that it is important that ILGA-LAC’s work can continue and has therefore provided financial support.

Half of the funding provided by the Rainbow Fund comes from a contribution from Google via the Tides Foundation.

What is ILGA?

Founded in 1978, ILGA is a global network of local and national groups aimed at achieving equal rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex people (LGBTI) and freedom from all forms of discrimination.

ILGA-LAC has more than 300 member organisations in the following Latin American countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Uruguay and Venezuela.

This is how the donation will be used

The funds will be used to operate the regional office infrastructure in terms of rents, services, taxes, insurance, stationery, bank charges and contingencies. The donation will also ensure the continuity of the activities planned within ILGA-LAC’s strategic plan and that they can retain resources in the form of competent personnel.

In addition to infrastructure and continuity of work, ILGA-LAC wants to continue to grow and strengthen the work with the organisations in the French-speaking Caribbean, especially with Haiti to integrate them more strongly into the organisation. They also want to improve communication for ILGA-LAC across its various platforms, which serve as a support for developing activities. This would contribute to broadening the participation of member organisations and their communication with each other. It will also be a means of reaching a wider range of LGBTI organisations and giving them access to the information and resources available at regional and international level.
