Emergency support to Tbilisi Pride in Georgia

In July and August 2021, Regnbågsfonden conducted an emergency fundraiser to support the organization Tbilisi Pride in Georgia.

In connection with a planned Pride Parade on 5 July, the organization’s premises were stormed and vandalized. Everything was broken. Thousands of anti-LGBTQI hooligans, backed by the Orthodox Church and pro-Russian groups, prevented the parade from taking place. Journalists and LGBTQI activists on the streets were subject to violence and assault. Georgia’s LGBTQI people lack support as Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili claims that “the majority of the population is against Pride demonstrations”.
